Research Themes

Our R&D activity involves various aspects of green hydrogen production, from novel materials synthesis to the design of high-performance electrodes, development of advanced electrochemical technologies, prototyping and techno-economic analysis.

Electrocatalyst Synthesis

Investigating novel materials and fabrication methods with a focus on earth abundance and scalability. We work to improve electrocatalysts’ stability and regeneration capacities, while minimising their environmental impact and fabrication costs. We develop both new noble-metal-free catalysts and novel industry-friendly synthesis methods.

Electrode Design

Proposing, fabricating and testing innovative electrode configurations for high catalytic efficiency. We develop unprecedented electrode designs that will allow significant performance enhancement and cost reduction for electrolysers. We investigate electrode designs for a wide range of applications and make them amenable to various levels of current densities and temperatures.

Hydrogen Production Module Prototyping

Designing, manufacturing and testing novel hydrogen production modules. We endeavour to create compact, flexible and scalable modules that could be widely adopted for different types of applications. We investigate different system configurations, with or without direct coupling to a renewable energy source. We strive to reduce the complexity and cost of the hydrogen production modules with ingenious electrolyte and gas management techniques.

Techno-Economic Analysis

Assessing the techno-economic feasibility and viability of hydrogen production systems, as well as their environmental impact. We assess our systems from materials to balance-of-plant costs and impact. We further seek to identify relevant market opportunities and provide guidance for novel research directions and priorities.
